Hundreds of bicycle riders take over Downtown Columbia Square for our Youth
County Mayor Jim Bailey and local citizens team up in support of Initiative to Recruit Mentors
COLUMBIA, Tennessee – Maury County Mayor, Jim Bailey has proclaimed June 7, 2008 as Turn the Tide day. The Mayor along with other community leaders (Ty Cobb, Rick Fisher and Steve Gervasi) gathered to encourage the citizens of Maury County to pray for our teenagers and become mentors to our students.
On Saturday, June 7th , beginning at 9am till 12:00pm hundreds of families, bicycle riders and prayer walkers will be gathering at the Columbia Courthouse to support our youth. “SHOUT’s Turn The Tide Ride” is a unique Christian outreach event that is designed to raise awareness of the need for people of faith to step up and combat the problems facing our students with prayer and mentorship.
“SHOUT’s Turn The Tide Ride” is the first event of it’s kind in Columbia and will have something for everyone to enjoy on the square. There will be a bike ride featuring teams from Maury Regional Hospital, Wal*Mart, UAW, local firefighters and many other groups. Faith Riders a Christian Motorcycle Club has chapters from all over the State of Tennessee participating in a faith ride to schools across Maury County and back to the courthouse for 7 final laps. Music is provided by DJ Wally from WayFM radio and performances from Dellerosa, the Maury County Mass Choir and local artists will keep visitors entertained. The Kids Zone will feature an inflatable jumpy, clowns, face painters and a mini bike ride called “Bikes, Trikes and Training Wheels” where junior riders can show off their talent and take a ride around the court house with the Mayor.
Registration for additional riders will be open at 7am – ride and activities will begin promptly at 9am after the pledge of allegiance and the song “Star Spangled Banner”.
