Shout PMI and City of Columbia Mayor Bill Gentner team up in support of Initiative to Recruit Mentors

May 6, 2008 - Columbia, TN

COLUMBIA, Tennessee – On Saturday, June 7th , beginning at 9:00am hundreds of bicycle riders will be circling around the downtown Columbia Courthouse while praying for our youth. “Shout’s Turn The Tide Ride” is a unique Christian outreach that is part of the Shout Prayer Mentor Initiative to recruit, train and mobilize adults into the lives of our students. The ultimate goal of this event is to raise awareness of the need for mentors of all faiths to step up and combat the problems facing our students with prayer and mentorship.

“I’m shouting out to you because the teenagers in our area are facing a future with odds stacked against them. Fatherlessness, gangs, teen promiscuity and pregnancies, drug and alcohol abuse, along with a myriad of other issues are destroying our kids. Every teenager I know is at risk at some level--churched, un-churched, upper, middle and low income, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic or Asian--Every kid growing up in today’s world is swimming in a sea of consequences created by former generations. Without help from the adult generation on an unprecedented scale, many of our youth will drown,” says Steve Gervasi, founder of Shout PMI.

“Shout’s Turn The Tide Ride” is the first event of it’s kind in Columbia established to raise the awareness and the funds needed to recruit and train adult prayer mentors. The ultimate goal of this event is to have 7,000 adults praying for 7,000 youth in our area and then to train and certify a portion of these adults as one-on-one mentors.

City of Columbia Mayor, William Gentner, is proclaiming June 7, 2008 as Turn the Tide day. The proclamation will be made on Columbia’s Public Square on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 1:15 P.M.
The Mayor along with other community leaders will be present to lend support for this effort and to encourage our citizens to pray for our teenagers and to become mentors to the students in our city
